Over the past 11 months Ken Purnell, a fellow Area Developer from Oregon, has been working with a team of community members to bring Young Life to Anaconda Montana. This team has been praying and seeking people in the community to join them. When it was time to bring these people together to share the vision of Young Life with Anaconda, I (Michelle) was asked to join. I was also asked to continue to journey with this team ongoing.
Anaconda is a town of around 9,500 people. There are approximately 309 high school students and 158 junior high students. I spent about 4 days in this town. After my time here, it was clear that youth have little to no options for any type of faith-based youth programming. It is disheartening, to say the least. Anaconda needs Young Life in a huge way.
Insert Kaitlyn (and her husband Jim). This is us at Anaconda High School saying a quick prayer over this hallway while trying to get a meeting with the principal. We spent the day meeting with lots of people at the government building to churches. It was a great day seeking the Lord for what is next in Anaconda.
It's clear, God is going to use Kaitlyn and her husband Jim to change Anaconda, generationally - forever!
And.....
This is LUNCH BUNCH! (don't you just LOVE that name?!)
A church next to the High School serves lunch to High School students. See, school lunch is well, not great. These folks make a yummy lunch every Wednesday for them!
They see around 20-25 students every week. Kaitlyn and Jim go every week to sit with and eat lunch with students. What a gift!
Young Life doesn't start with a program, it starts with a community that cares. Expect big things from Anaconda over the next year and please pray as we form and train a volunteer committee and leaders!
Would you like to support my efforts in Anaconda and across the Mountain West Region?
