Catching The Vision

Writer's picture: Michelle CarnesMichelle Carnes

Settling into the beautiful Chelan Valley has been a journey of discovery and excitement for our family. Recently, my daughter's friend captured a moment that perfectly symbolizes our new adventure: a photo of Hailey proudly holding her catch from the lake. This image isn't just about the thrill of fishing; it represents our broader mission with Young Life here in Chelan Valley. As we dive into my new role and connect with the community, we’re inspired by the enthusiasm and support around us. Together, we’re casting out plans as others catch the vision as we set the stage for what will be a transformative time for Young Life in Chelan Valley.

Before I get into the details of what's next for Chelan Valley - here is an update on the areas I am serving.

Kalispell Young Life

These are just a few folks from Kalispell's first annual Wiffle Ball Fundraiser. It was fun for Shawn and me to be there to encourage, answer questions, and help in any way we could. Around 40 people showed up in fun team uniforms to support Young Life and they raised over $10,000! Soon, I will be assisting in sending a group of kids to camp in at Canyon in July and Lord willing, on August 1st a local Area Director will take over!

Deer Park WyldLife

Deer Park's adventure at Creekside is in full swing with 17 enthusiastic kids and leaders. In a heartwarming turn of events, two boys were able to join at the very last moment thanks to the community’s generous support. One of our leaders joyfully reported that one of these boys embraced Jesus this week. I am profoundly thankful for a community that recognizes and supports the transformative power that Jesus has on kids!

Back to Catching the Vision for Chelan Valley......

Recently, we convened with our dedicated leaders and committee members to chart the future course for Chelan Valley Young Life. In our collaborative efforts, we identified three primary goals that will guide our focus for the upcoming school year.

  1. High School Ministry - Restart

>Recruit 3+ qualified leaders and train them

>Leaders meet 25+ kids each (via contact work)

>High School clubs start

>Take 25+ High School Kids to Camp in the summer 2025

2. Grow Committee Team

>Prayer Coordinator - along with a growing prayer team

>Finance Team

>Community Support Team Coordinator - WyldLife & YoungLives

>Banquet/Event Coordinator - Lead

3. YoungLives Coordinator - Chelan County

>Raise $30,000 needed to hire - applying for grants and community fundraising

>Takes 2+ moms with babies and 1 nanny to camp in the Summer of 2025

>Potentially take 1-2 Latino Grandmas to camp to help gain more trust in the community.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Jamie Pancho, the principal of Chelan High School. During my visit, Principal Pancho graciously gave me a tour of the school, and we had a meaningful conversation about the needs of the students. I'm deeply grateful for his openness and support, especially in welcoming Young Life leaders into the school community beginning in the fall.

As we move forward, I ask for your continued prayers. Pray that the Chelan community will embrace the vision for Young Life, WyldLife, and YoungLives. Pray for our specific goals, including raising $20,000 this summer to support our initiatives (already raised $4,000). Also, pray that we continue to find favor within the churches, the wider community, and the schools. Your support and prayers are vital as we work to make kids KNOWN and Jesus FAMOUS!

Last but not least - Pray for the almost 30 kids and leaders heading to Washington Family Ranch - Creekside TOMORROW from Chelan Valley!

Thank you for CATCHING THE VISION with us!
